Emergency Human Rights
Summit

On June 6, 2009, a gathering of representatives of human rights organizations, advocate groups, various churches, and concerned individuals was held in Washington, DC. This gathering, called Emergency Human Rights Summit on the Philippines, was organized to build upon the strong but relatively dispersed response of US-based communities of faith, human rights and labor advocates, and members of the Filipino community to the human rights crisis in the Philippines. It provided these various groups the opportunity to have conversations and to share about their work and analysis on human rights in the Philippines. Bishop Valentin Lorejo of St. James' Parish, Philippine Independent Church, Chicago, attended this summit. EAM Consultation 2009

The Episcopal Asiamerica Ministry (EAM) Consultation will be held on June 18-22, 2009 at DaySpring Conference Center, 8411 25th East Street in Parrish, Florida. The host is the Diocese of Southwest Florida. This year's theme is "Go in peace to love and serve the Lord: Mission & Evangelism in an Age of Globalization, Part II." Being in full communion with the Episcopal Church and sharing common mission, hopes and struggles with other Asian churches, the Philippine Independent Church has been participating in this annual Consultation which takes place in different venues. The gathering of clergy and laity from diverse Asian groups and of several advocates of Asian ministry is a manifestation of God’s love at work among the marginalized, the strangers, and the silent victims of oppressions. The participants come together to pray; to enjoy the fellowship; to teach and learn; to re-capture the vision of Christ’s mission; to enable the youth and the women claim their vital roles in the life of the Church; to make plans for effective ministry in different localities; to establish partnerships in mission; to find the resources needed for church planting; and so forth.

Lambeth Conference 2008
The Lambeth Conference will take place this year on July 16 to August 4 at the University of Kent in Canterbury, England. At the invitation of the Archbishop of Canterbury, Anglican bishops all over the world meet every ten years. Also invited are bishops from other churches "in communion” with the Anglican Communion, bishops from United Churches and a number of ecumenical guests. It is a special occasion when all bishops can get together for worship, study and conversation. The Conference serves as one of the four “Instruments of Communion.” The other three instruments are the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Primates Meeting, and the Anglican Consultative Council.
